Sermon:

Commended for their Faith
Hebrews 11:29 to 12:2
The writer of Hebrews used the long history of Israel and the heroes of their faith to encourage the early church to persevere in the face of persecution and hard times. Can we claim that we, like those heroes of faith who have gone before us, will be commended for our faith?

Sermon – August 11, 2019

Prelude:

Sermon:

Be Watchful
Scripture: Luke 12:32-40
Abstract: Jesus begins the set of instructions in today’s text with the phrase, “Do not be afraid.” And it is the starting point and anchor for everything else in this passage. It is God’s good pleasure – God’s intention, plan, and delight – to give you the kingdom! If this is true, then disciples can, indeed, resist the seduction of wealth, not fall prey to constant anxiety about worldly needs, share what they have with others, and wait expectantly, even eagerly, for the coming of the Son of Man.” [i] We are to be watchful because no one knows when Jesus will come again. How we live our lives now matters. Know that if you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you ARE part of the Kingdom of God – in its present reality and in its future promise.
